5 Days and 4 nights

5 Days and 4 Nights

Day 1) Transfer from your hotel to the pier to board the houseboat, with hammock accommodation on the upper deck. We will head east towards the ‘Meeting of the Waters’ where the Solimôes and Rio Negro, the two tributaries, meet to form the Amazon River.

We will take the Solimôes for approximately 4 hours upriver until we reach its small tributaries, called the Iranduba, where we will spend the day doing activities; piranha fishing, birdwatching, dolphin spotting, and seeing the giant water lilies.

At night, we will go alligator spotting, then after having dinner on the boat, we will head to the Amazon tributaries; first the Solimôes and then up the Rio Negro to where we will spend the night at the village of Cachoeira do Castanha.

Day 2) Breakfast on the boat, then a morning jungle trek for about 3 to 4 hours with an explanation of medicinal plants, survival techniques, fauna and flora, and the Amazon ecosystem. Upon returning to the boat we will move on to the Anavilhanas Archipelago, where we will either canoe through flooded jungle or go for another trek to spot more wildlife.

After dinner we will go by paddle canoe to hear the nocturnal jungle song, and then return to the boat. We will then proceed upriver on the Rio Negro to Cuieras River, a tributary of the Rio Negro where we will sleep.

Day 3) Breakfast, then we will visit native people in a caboclos dwelling. This is a good opportunity to see how the native people deal with the jungle and their typical way of life. We will visit their plantations to see manioc and other crops. Lunch on the boat, then in the afternoon we will take the hammocks and mosquito nets to camp out in the forest. We will set up our camp, put up the hammocks with mosquito nets and enjoy dinner.

Day 4) Breakfast in the jungle, then another jungle trek to explore the area and learn more about the Amazon rainforest, as well as more jungle survival techniques; how to climb trees and how to get water from a vine. Following lunch, we will move camp somewhere else. At night we’ll go out for a nocturnal canoe trip.

Day 5) Return to the boat for breakfast and start sailing downriver. On the way we will stop at another tributary of the Rio Negro, the Acajatuba, to swim with the pink dolphins and visit a nearby Indian tribe to see ritual dance and music. Then we have lunch as we start to return to Manaus, arriving at about 6:30pm
